The 2004 Summer Institute opened on July 7 at Mountainview Elementary School. Eleven members from local elementary, middle, high school, and college schools were introduced to writing theory, and they began a writing community. Leaders for the Institute were Sally Manly of Marion County and Ellen Oderman of Monongalia County. The Summer Fellows selected the theme "No Writer Left Behind" for their anthology. The cover design was developed by Bev Wiles. As a culmination of the two-day technology portion of the Institute, the Fellows created their own t-shirts incorporating the design and the logo of the WVU Writing Project. Teacher Consultants for the sessions included Dr. Laura Brady, Dr. Judy Abbot, Dr. Gwen Rosenbluth, Margaret Clark, Dr. Chris Lavorata, and JoEllen Snider. Three follow-up sessions will be held in the Fall. During these sessions, Fellows will have the opportunity to discuss progress in their classroom research, receive updates in writing theory, and share successes/questions in classroom practice.
